DESCRIPTION

This ancient Greek-style illustration depicts the Battle of Marathon in 490 BCE, rendered in the classical red-figure pottery aesthetic with black silhouettes against a tan background. The composition shows two opposing forces engaged in combat: Greek hoplites on the left wielding spears and shields with distinctive crested helmets, facing Persian warriors on the right with their characteristic equipment and armor. The scene captures the intensity of the confrontation with multiple soldiers in dynamic poses, arrows flying through the air, and palm trees scattered across the arid landscape to establish the historical setting. Ornamental Greek meander patterns frame the entire image in the upper and lower borders, alongside decorative floral motifs in the corners that enhance the authenticity of the classical design. The bold motto "STAND FAST, STRIKE HARD" anchors the bottom of the composition, emphasizing the martial spirit and determination exemplified by this pivotal ancient battle.
